The event has been earmarked as a qualifier for this year's World Aquatics SC Championships in Budapest, Hungary
Excitement is mounting in the swimming community as teams crank preparations into top gear for this year’s Kenya Aquatics National Swimming Championships scheduled for 18-19 May at Mpesa Foundation, Thika.
The championships, which will act as a qualifier for the World Aquatics SC Swimming Championships in Budapest, have so far attracted 41 teams, and with them a long lineup of sponsors and partners ready to support the event.
Among the Kenyan teams that are readying up for the championships include: Super Marlins SC, Kianda School, Seahorses Club, Swimfit Classic, Bandari Club, Umoja Sharks, Potterhouse School, Genesis Club, Riara School, Nyahururu Elite, Rapids Club, St. Christopher’s School, Aquashark Club, Mombasa Aquatics and Nova Pioneer.
With 43 qualified swimmers, Seahorses Aquatics, led by club manager Eng. Peter Mwangangi, have already kick-started their preparations by conducting a high-performance training camp at St. Bakhita School in Machakos.
The team is also set to compete in next month’s Uganda National Swimming Championships in Kampala.
The event is part of a broader initiative for sports tourism and exchange program fostered by the cooperative relationship between the Kenyan and Ugandan swimming federations.
It is with that kind of partnership that Torpedoes Swimming Club from Uganda will mark their participation in the Kenya championships this month, bringing along 15 swimmers who have met the qualifying standards.
Dr. John Timbe, Director of Torpedoes, eagerly anticipates gaining valuable experience and exposure from the event.
Among the sponsors for the championship will be TW Solars, who have paved the way by reflecting strong corporate backing.
